My family has never really been close, and it is a shame. My parents weren't very close to their families and I think it spilled over to us kids as well. However, I don't think it is good to not be close to family and I want to be sure my kids have their family. Both sides.
This is part of the reason I let them move to their dad's. His family is very close and I wanted them to have that.
Over the years, I've come to realize that family is crucial and maintaining ties is important. I love my family. I've learned that we are not as dysfunctional as we have thought. All families have issues, whether worn on the surface, or hidden beneath the surface.
The thing is, they get mad and get over it. Most don't go years without contact like we have.
I'm not allowing the years to pass again. I'll bug the hell our of them before I'll let years pass. Lol.
