"I don't have time to workout."
"I'm too busy."
"with a full-time job and the kids, I just don't see how I can get in a workout."
"The dog ate my fitness DVD."
Ok, I made the last one up, but I hear the others almost every single day and it seems people think this is a legitimate excuse not to workout. Perhaps because they TRULY believe they can't fit it in or perhaps because they simply don't want to workout and this is the excuse they are giving OR it's because I'm a SAHM and they think I can workout because I have so much "free time" and would never understand what it's like to balance a job and family and then try to squeeze in the "luxury" of working out.
Whatever the reason, I hear constantly the excuse that there isn't' enough time.
The fact is, it's bullshit.
Sorry. I can't and won't sugar coat it.
I used to work full-time and balance work and family and creative endeavors and I still worked out several times a week, if not daily. As a matter of fact, I was excessive about it, because I had an ED and was constantly watching the scale. If I can do all of that and workout for an hour or more a day, then so can you...yes, you - with your full-time job and three children.
The fact is, we all have the same amount of time in each day. No one has time in a bottle that they can pull out when they are busy. So, what can you do?
What To Do:
1. You have to make your health a priority. Your health should be very high on your list of priorities. Especially if you're a mother. If you're not healthy...if you're lacking energy...if you always put yourself last, then that affects your family. Do you want your children to always put themselves on the bottom of the list? I surely hope not. I hope you teach your children to value themselves as much as their loved ones.
2. You must stop seeing workouts as a "luxury" or a temporary activity you only do to "get ready for bikini season." I say, fuck bikini season. What is that? What if I go to the beach in December? Why work your ass to the bone, killing yourself in spring just to feel good for a couple of summer months and then stop? Why feel good for one season when you can feel amazing for FOUR seasons?
3. You've gotta ditch the excuses. When you say, "I don't have the time," no one buys it. We've all heard that so many times it's become a cliche. Everyone is busy. EVERYONE. Even people like me who stay home. Do you think your day care worker is sitting around with time to workout? I hope not. Caring for children is a job just like any other. I just happen to have the luxury of caring for my own child all day. I do't have time during the day to workout. If I workout now it's early in the morning or after she goes to bed, because she no longer naps.
So anyway, I'll get off my soapbox. You get the idea. My message: Stop bitching and just do it.
Here is a "workout" you can do at work, at your desk or sitting down watching your child do whatever physical activity he/she is doing or wherever you feel like.
When should you workout? Click here for information about that.
Why Bother?
1. You'll gain the energy you lack right now.
2. You'll feel happier because of the endorphins and the fact that you're doing something good for yourself.
3. You'll lose fat that can potentially harm your body...yes, even you "skinny fat" people.
4. You'll feel more in control of your life. The idea of not having time to do something you want to do signals a lack of control, which can lead to stress.
5. It's a natural antidepressant.
These are just five reasons...
What have you got to lose?
I guarantee you're going to feel better.
