I can't tell you how many women I've known in my life-family, friends, co-workers, customers, etc- who have told me about their wish for defined abs. Most of them spend time doing isolating workouts like crunches, to no avail.
These types of workouts simply won't work. Sure, do crunches if you wish, but you can't do them and expect your abs to transform. You've go to do full body fat burning and you need to work out your whole body.
More importantly, you have to eat well...eat often...and eat the most nutritious foods you can. I don't care how many hours you put in at the gym, if you're leaving and downing 6-packs and eating shit, you're just not going to get the results.
It's easy to modify your diet to more nutritious options.
Example:
1. have whole wheat pasta or spaghetti squash in place of refined white pasta
2. Air popped popcorn instead of the buttery type. If you're stuck on the heavily buttered type, then ease down slowly.
3. Start meatless Mondays.
4. Try a new vegetable every time you go to the grocery store.
5. Turkey bacon instead of pork bacon.
6. Make your own juice instead of buying processed juice.
7. Add spinach to any dish you possibly can. The same for kale.
8. Eat breakfast everyday day!
9. Have nuts, dried fruit, and granola on hand for snacks on the go, instead of grabbing chips or sweets.
10. If you're a heavy soda drinker, exchange one soda for water each day and slowly work your way up to ridding your diet of sodas completely (or at least make them an occasional treat).
Small steps are the key to sticking to it. I started eating healthier two years ago, although I've always been active. The difference is I don't want to lose weight...although you might...I want to be healthy. Having had an eating disorder, I promised myself I'd do nothing until I was in the right frame of mind and I am.
When I take care of my body, when my body feels strong and healthy, I feel sexy and when my husband calls me that, I don't feel the need to roll my eyes immediately. I feel good about myself. I'm better able to care for my family. I have a more positive outlook. I want to DO more in general.
I hope you feel the same way. You deserve to feel good about yourself.
We only have this one life, that we are aware of. Make it a Life worth looking back on. Don't restrict yourself. Enjoy life. Enjoy food. Enjoy doing things. Live it to the fullest.
