Diaper Rash

Kathryn has diaper rash. Boo.

With cloth diapers, she VERY RARELY has a rash. As a matter of fact, we have bought only 2 tubes of rash cream since she was born, and we still have both. One is in the diaper bag and the other is in the nursery.

I have a system for washing the diapers to ensure all the detergent residue is out. I rinse in warm, wash in hot on heavy cycle with small amount of detergent, then I run a second NO DETERGENT light cycle to be sure they are rinsed thoroughly.

The rash is only on her cheeks, so this has me stumped. It is not bad and according to what I've seen online, it would be classified as mild/moderate and can be treated with diaper rash cream and thorough drying. She always has "air time," but this is almost exclusively at night after a bath, when she crawls all over her room and plays with her toys before bedtime. I like to be sure she is totally dry after a bath to avoid rash and chafing.

So I'm a little stumped with this rash.

It COULD be food related, but she really hasn't had anything new except watermelon, but she had that AFTER the rash showed up.

It COULD just be friction...hence the air drying.

It COULD be teething, but research is conflicted on this point. It does seem coincidental (and many would argue that it IS) that she is seriously drooling and showing major signs of teething now and the rash has showed up.

It's scary to look online for information. Her's is so incredibly minor compared to any image I've found. It is pink with lines of demarcation. She has no fever and it doesn't seem to both her a bit. I'm just going to use cream, let her go without a diaper cover, and without a diaper throughout the day. If it doesn't get better in a few days, I'll call her doctor.

Some resources on the topic:

From Ask Dr. Sears

From Desitin
PS...DO NOT use Desitin if you use cloth diapers, as it can cause repelling issues!

My sweetie, sleeping sans diaper cover.
